Hi friends! As you know, I am very active on social media and every day at 5:00 I film Evly’s Blog Topics for the Passionate Blogger! But I’ve decided I’m going to be turning off my phone for 31 days. Why?

Nowadays, people are always on their phones. Kids beneath the age of 12 are receiving phones from their parents, and most kids never use their phones for a useful purpose, but for playing games. What the heck!! If you don’t need your phone, don’t use your phone!   It’s not just kids, you know. Adults are also suffering from this “phone plague”, as I’ll refer to it from now on. Only a few days ago, I was at the local Walmart when I saw two adults suffering from the effects of this plague.

I was at the item pickup section at Walmart to pick up a new desktop video monitor to film Evly’s Blog Topics for the Passionate Blogger. I was waiting for my item to come when I noticed two adults sitting side by side on the bench, both of them on their phones. At first I didn’t notice anything strange about it, I thought they were just waiting for somebody to come out of the bathroom on the right. But then the woman laughed, looked at her companion, and said, “You got me there.”

Whaaat??

It seemed like she was talking to her friend, but the crazy thing was that they hadn’t said a word to each other, because they were busy on their phones. A minute later, just as the woman behind the counter came out carrying my box, the man looked at the woman, laughed, and said, “Wow, that’s troublesome”.

Thank you, Mr. Somebody. That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Why would two grownups, both visibly on their phones, look up at each other at random intervals and say something to one another? They hadn’t even said one word  to each other! On my way out, I snuck a peek at their phones. They were both on Text Messaging! I was confused back then, but now I realize that they were texting each other! Pathetic. Just pathetic.  Sitting right next to each other, and they prefer to text? Wow.

Technology can ruin our society. I just showed you an example of this! When my parents were my age, technology barely existed. Computers were very rare, and these were not your normal home computers. The computers that did exist were about the size of a kitchen. Phones most certainly weren’t around. And MacBooks? Please. In the early 2000’s, hot technology were BlackBerries and PalmPilots. You can laugh, but that was what people flocked to buy! No Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, or mobile games. What a miracle! We survived without Minecraft! People don’t realize that phones and computers are recent developments. If humankind survived for thousands of years without technology, it wouldn’t hurt us to take a little break.

Anybody can turn off their phones and talk to their families. That’s why I challenge YOU to turn off your phone for 31 days. Use it only when you need it, and remember that you have people to talk to when things get boring. Be creative! You’ll find that you, yes you, can join the ranks of those who didn’t need their phone to have a happy life.

Time without your phone is time with your family.

Family time! (no phones in sight)

Best friends, no phone!

Best Friends!! ( again, no phones in sight)
