We have been wanting a maine coon cat as a pet for a while now. They get along with other pets really easily, and we do have other pets, so that’s a reason we want one of these sweet kitties. Maine coons are great if you have young children or older people in the house, as they are gentle creatures. Also, they are great first time pets. These cats are very big boned and muscular, males weighing up to 18 lbs, females weighing up to 12. Maine coons are prone to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hip dysplasia, and spinal muscular atrophy, so you need to be careful where you buy your cat. If you are buying from a breeder, make sure he or she is a respectable breeder and breeds healthy cats. You might want to talk to customers of maine coon breeders, and find out about their experience with their maine coons and the breeders. If you are interested in these maine coon cats, here are some facts about them you may enjoy.
1.Maine coons are the largest domestic cat breed. Maine coons can be up to 40 inches in length and come in 75 different color combinations. These cats are also called the American Shorthair.
2. Maine coons are ready for the winter with their long multi-layered fur and huge paws that help them walk on the snow. Some have ear tufts and bushy tails, which they wrap around their bodies for added warmth.
3. They are very loyal and devoted pets, great to have around the house. They are very good with children and other pets. They LOVE HUMAN ATTENTION, so be sure to give your cat plenty of love.
4. They don’t typically ‘”meow”, they chirp and trill. A trill is something between a meow and a purr.
5. Maine coons love the water. They have water resistant fur and are strong swimmers.
We may get a Maine coon soon. If you have older people in the house, small children, or have never owned a cat before, if you get a cat, I strongly recommend getting a maine coon. These gentle giants will light up your life!
